Government Documents Round Table Chair's Program: Government Information in Evidence Synthesis: Challenges & Opportunities
1:00pm - 2:00pm Pacific
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 29 A B C

Are you interested in or involved with evidence-based decision- or policy-making? Interested in or involved with systematic reviews, meta-analyses, or other forms of evidence synthesis? What about how government information appears related to these topics? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this session is for you! While evidence synthesis has long been common in medicine, it is increasingly expanding to other fields, such as the life sciences and social sciences. Librarians in various settings, including academic, medical, governmental, and other special libraries, are likewise increasingly tapped to contribute to these projects. Locating grey literature, including government information, is an expected component of evidence synthesis. However, discussions of how to locate government information, and potential challenges in doing so, are rare. Participants will learn how government information contributes to evidence synthesis, resources from the U.S. and international governments used to gather information (and challenges encountered) presented via short case studies, and opportunities for future research. Participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences and questions.
Presenter: Elizabeth Sanders (she/her/hers) - Mary & John Gray Library, Lamar University
