GODORT Best Practices for LibGuides

Review your guides

Review your guides at least once a year to make sure that the information is current and relevant. Link checking should be done at least twice a year.

Link Checker

LibGuides has a link checker that can be used to find broken urls.  Once you have logged in, click on "Tools" in the  top menu bar and select "Link Checker."Picture of top LibGuides Menu

Alternatively, Chrome has an extension called "Broken Link Checker" that also works well.  To get the extension visit: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions and type the name of the extension into the search box. Select the extension and click "Add to Chrome." Then use the extension by click on the extension icon (looks like a puzzle piece)icon to the right of the address bar. Broken Link Checker will highlight the links it checks on the screen, and mark the broken urls in red.

Refresh Content

At least once a year, review all published guides.

  • Refresh subject guides with new material.
  • Ensure that existing guides are in alignment with the GODORT Best Practices.
  • Check any screenshots or tutorials to make sure they are up to date and are still relevant for current resources.

Weed your guides

  • If a guide is no longer in general use, but you may want to reuse its content in the future, consider changing its status to Unpublished.

  • If a guide is no longer in use and is only useful to you as a record of what you had published, consider creating a backup and removing it from the system.

  • Check usage statistics for your guides using the Statistics tool in the orange menu bar. Delete guides that have little or no usage.
